Precisely, Bernedoodles can vary in size, and it is all because of their Poodle parent. They can be tiny to cuddly giants, making them an ideal fit for all types of households. The Bernedoodle size chart is thus very handy for prospective buyers. By referring to this size chart, you can get an idea of what to expect regarding the growth and weight of the Bernedoodle. So, without much ado, here is a quick look at the Bernedoodles’ sizes, growth states, and factors that can impact their development.

Reasons that make Bernedoodles’ size so variable

Often, dog lovers are curious about the reasons that make its size so different. Well, the fact is, being a hybrid breed, their size depends on genetics. As we all know, the Bernese mountain dog has one of its parent that is usually large, while the Poodles vary and are generally seen in three sizes, standard, miniature, and toy. Therefore, depending on the type of Poodle that is being bred, we get three different categories of Bernedoodles, and they are:

  • Standard Bernedoodle, which is bred with the Standard Poodle.
  • Mini Bernedoodle, which is a cross-breed of a Miniature Poodle.
  • Tiny Bernedoodle, which is bred with a Toy Poodle.

It is due to the abovementioned variations, their weight can also vary drastically between 10 pounds and 90 pounds when they become adults. Here is a more detailed explanation of their physical attributes:

  • Standard Bernedoodle: It’s typically within 70-90 pounds, and grows up to 29 inches tall. The breed is an ideal fit for families residing in large homes, who are habituated to active lifestyles and who offer plenty of space for exercise.  Remember, these pups can grow rather fast during their initial year, and continue to do so till they get to 18 months. The Standard Bernedoodles are fondly referred to as gentle giants, as they are big enough to join their owners on hikes, and they can also be laid-back to relax indoors.
  • Mini Bernedoodle: This particular hybrid does not grow more than 22 inches tall, and they weigh between 25 and 50 pounds. They are best for dog enthusiasts who prefer a mid-sized dog, and they can live conveniently in both apartments and houses. The Mini Bernedoodle reaches its full size within a year or by 14 months. For many dog lovers, the Mini Bernedoodle seems to be the best option, as they are small enough and can be managed easily, and they are equally sturdy. The owner would feel, Mini Bernedoodle and outdoor adventure are ideally made for each other.
  • Tiny Bernedoodle: As the name suggests, this specific breed does not grow much. It would hardly grow up to 17 inches tall and weigh between 10 and 24 pounds. Ideally, singles, couples, or families living in limited spaces and yet desire having a faithful companion that is conveniently manageable, the Tiny Bernedoodle can fill the vacuum. Interestingly, this breed grows rather fast and reaches its full size by 8-12 months. Tiny Bernedoodles are indeed adorable, and they love attention. City-dwellers can accommodate this breed without any issues.

Growth stages of a Bernedoodle

The growth stage of Bernedoodles is no different from that of other breeds. They, too, have specific phases of growth. By understanding these stages, potential or existing dog owners can determine if the pup is growing at a healthy rate.

  • Puppyhood: This phase lasts from their birth to six months. One can witness rapid growth during the first 4 months. Bernedoodles will usually gain most of their height during this period.
  • Adolescence: The period between 6 and 12 months is the adolescence stage when the growth slows down considerably, but they start gaining weight and muscle mass and continue to develop.
  • Adult: After one and a half years, the weight gain comes to a halt. However, overall activity and nutrition can have a crucial role in developing their physique.

Aspects that can affect the size of a Bernedoodle

Although the Bernedoodles are known for the three categories as mentioned before, individual Bernedoodles can differ due to various factors, and they are:

  • Genetics: Pups can take traits from either parent; as a result, puppies of the same parent can differ in size.
  • Gender: The male Bernedoodles will always be slightly larger than the female ones.
  • Diet: High-quality and balanced nutrition usually ensures steady growth and reduces the chances of the dog being under- or overweight.
  • Exercise: The active ones are known for their lean muscles, and it can also have an impact on their overall weight.
  • Generation type: The percentage of Poodle and the Bernese genetics can also influence their size.

If you are a proud owner of a Bernedoodle and wondering about their eventual size, here are some useful tips:

  • Verify the parents’ size: It is the most reliable indicator. By knowing the size of the parents, one can get a fair idea of the size up to which they can grow.
